Samuel Cook, born in Clarks, MS on January 22, 1931, also professional known as Sam Cooke was an American soul music singer, songwriter, civil rights activist, and businessman. Influential as both a singer and composer, he is commonly known as the King of Soul for his distinctive vocals and importance within popular music. Sam Cooke died on December 11, 1964, in Los Angeles, CA.
